This program will consist of 1 hour and 50 minutes on ice most days. Limited to 18 – 20 players grouped into specific work teams. Each team will rotate through line and stations drills run by Kurt and other members of his team. Kurt will be personally teaching all the line drills and at least one station daily. All skating skills on the KNPS teaching wheel (view here) will be thoroughly covered.
Specifically, 45 minutes of each day will be dedicated to backwards skating only. Backwards skating leads to better balance and drastically improves players transitions and skating creativity on the ice.
There will be a concentration on functional edge work and application while learning to use the specific body mechanics and gravity to leverage speed. The program will be progressive from day to day. Skills will be taught and later applied in drills and skating sequences. Pucks will be incorporated throughout the program as players gain confidence on specific drills
